Update on New Funding Opportunities

Steps Communities

Through the Steps to a HealthierUS Cooperative Agreement program, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will fund additional Steps Communities in FY 2004. Awards will be provided to large city/urban communities, state-coordinated small city/rural communities, and tribal consortiums. The Request for Application (RFA) [PDF] (including attachments) to fund additional Steps Communities has been published in the Federal Register.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will additional Steps Communities be funded with the Steps to a HealthierUS Cooperative Agreement program FY 2004 budget increase?
    Yes, FY 2004 funding is available to award additional Steps Communities.

  • How will these awards be made?
    A new Request for Applications (RFA) will be posted to the Federal Register. Awards will be made on the basis of new applications. Applications received during the 2003 RFA process will not be used to make these awards.

  • Will existing Steps grantees have to re-compete?
    Existing Steps grantees will not have to re-compete to receive FY2004 funding. They will, however, be required to submit a continuing application within their interim progress report.

National Organizations to enhance the capacity of Steps Communities

Through the Steps to a HealthierUS Cooperative Agreement program, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will fund National Organizations to enhance the capacity of Steps Communities in FY 2004. Awards will be made through a competitive Request for Application (RFA) process.
